Apple Picking Will Get You In the Autumn Spirit At These Rockville Area Orchards

October 5, 2021 | Uncategorized

As the air cools and the leaves change colors, it’s obvious – fall is in the air here in Rockville! One of the best ways to get in the autumn spirit near our Ansel apartments is to head out to the orchard for a day of apple picking, an activity that’s just as fit for a six-year-old as it is for a 60-year-old.

Here near our Ansel apartments, we have tons of orchards that offer a day out on the farm complete with hay rides, cider doughnuts and more. As different varieties of apples are ripe at different times of the season, check these orchards’ websites to see if they have your favorite this weekend!

Lewis Orchards, located at 18901 Peach Tree Rd, Dickerson, MD which is 25 minutes from your Ansel apartment, is a family-owned farm with apple picking that has been a treasured part of the area since 1888.

Robert and Linda Lewis are the fourth generation to own and operate the farm. It has been expanded several times and is now in its most comprehensive state. The market building was completed in 2003 with much room and expanded shelf space, which has allowed for more extensive product offerings over time.

Catoctin Mountain Orchard, located at 15036 N Franklinville Rd, Thurmont which is 50 minutes from your Ansel apartment, is a 100-acre farm with crops such as apples, peaches, cherries, nectarines, pears, apricots, plums and black raspberries.

Catoctin Mountain Orchard was built around a small retail farm market in 1948. Harry and Helen Black purchased the farm in 1961 and built several additions to the open air retail market. Other types of fruit and berries were added along with jams, preserves, honey, maple syrup and more.
